We are now in the midst of beautiful weather after surviving a rather awful winter and early spring. Like the recent bad weather, our struggling national economy has touched all of us in one way or another and my heart goes out to anyone who lost a job, a business or home. To provide some degree of respite from our troubles, the Board has been planning three great family events.
First, we welcome everyone, young and old, to attend the First Annual 'Walk-In' Outdoor Movie Social Event, which is scheduled to be held Saturday night, June 6th on an inflatable movie screen. The exact location in the subdivision is being worked out. We will post the location at the entrances and via email alerts.
Naturally we need darkness to set in before the movie can start and we expect that will to occur around 9:00 p.m. that night. Popcorn and beverages will be provided and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and food for themselves. Come a little earlier, perhaps 8:00 p.m., to enjoy some piped in music and have a drink with your neighbors. What is playing that night? That is up to you! Please vote for one of the following three movie choices and email it back to Jeri Fermier at jbfermier@wideopenwest.com - 1. Ratatouille, 2. Madagascar or 3. Tale of Despereaux. Feel free to invite responsible non-resident family members or friends to this event. Even if you have no kids or they are grown up, stop by. Please RSVP with your votes and the number of adults and children in your party. If you suggest another movie that is not listed, vote for one of these choices and include the additional suggestion to Jeri on or before June 1. If you have any questions or wish to volunteer at this event, please contact Steve Farber, the board member who conceived this event at sfarber@chicagoatyourservice.com.
Second, we are once again planning an Independence Day Parade which has been tentatively set for the morning of Saturday, July 4th. Hundreds of people attended this event last year. I recommend you delay your start to any out of town travel until after our parade because this is always a lot of fun. Everybody marches, young and old, and invited guests include Mayor Pradel, the Fire Department, local scouts and Veterans of our Armed Forces. The parade lines up and kicks off from the entrance way in front of Springbrook School. It follows the traditional route southeast down Gateshead to Haddassah and then to its intersection with DuPahze near the Knoch Knolls Commons. There, we will have a great reception with drinks, refreshments and some really neat moon jumps. We will have them here for a couple hours so kids can play on them for a period after the parade. Again, please feel free to invite extended family and friends who are visiting you on the 4th.
Third, back by popular demand, we are planning a Summer Rock and Roll Block Party similar to last year. We expect to have great food, drinks raffles and two bands perform in the retention area on Knoch Knolls Road (near the Seiler entrance). That event has been penciled in for Saturday, August 15th. We welcome anyone who wants to volunteer or to donate door prizes for any of our events.
Concluding, I wish to change topics to address our recent March annual meeting. The highlight was when Julie Berkowicz was awarded the Third Annual Distinguished service award for all of her efforts. However, another important matter was discussed - the issue of whether we should modify the Covenants and Restrictions to permit high end metal fences. Those in attendance and the majority of those who voiced their opinion via email were in favor of allowing such fences. Consequently, a group of residents have formed an ad hoc fence committee and will be seeking your official vote on the issue, either by email signature (if you have signed up for email alerts) or by obtaining a written yes or no vote. If two-thirds of homeowners vote in favor of this proposal, we will have a modernization of the allowable fences in Knoch Knolls. This could be a time consuming process and metal fences have yet to be officially approved. Please contact Steve Farber before commencing any new fence project! Pay close attention to our Website. If you have not already done so, join the hundreds of homeowners who have signed up for instant email alerts. Thanks for your attention.
