On behalf of the Board, I would like to wish each of you a Happy New Year. Although we find ourselves in the midst of another harsh winter, better weather and better days lie ahead.
The Board is planning for the subdivision's next annual meeting. It has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 at Spring Brook Elementary School. We will start the meeting by presenting the next Distinguished Volunteer Service Award, followed by a discussion of pressing topics confronting the neighborhood. Pay attention to any notices you receive from the subdivision. Our Treasurer, Steve Krautstrunk, will be mailing an important letter to all residents containing further details about the meeting as well as an invoice for your 2010 dues. It will confirm the date, time and location of the meeting as well as ballots for the next election of Board officers. We are exploring ways to go "green" by giving residents the option to pay dues on-line rather than sending checks via regular mail, so stay tuned.
My third successive term will be finished and it has been my pleasure to serve on the board for six years. I am considering another term, but I want to give others who wish to serve a chance. Upon reflection, I have several favorite moments. Perhaps it was the completion of capital improvements - monuments and lighting - that transformed the entrances from an object of embarrassment to a source of beauty. Perhaps it was the renewed spirit in the community that rose like a phoenix from the ashes of a cancelled block party. Such was evidenced in the succession of positive social events that brought hundreds of us together - six July 4th parades, three "Knochstoch" music fests, wine tasting, a jazz concert and organized holiday lighting. Perhaps it was the development of our 300 member plus email alert system and Website. No, my favorite memory our community's finest hour - was the effort to help Evan Garrett receive a life-saving bone marrow operation to preserve God's greatest gift.
For their service in 2009, I thank each of my colleagues on the board Steve Krautstrunk, Rod Snyder, Steve Farber and Tom Curatolo. Mr. Farber's term is up for renewal and Mr. Curatolo has expressed his intention to retire after donating three years of valuable accounting expertise. All of us got along because we share a common devotion to the subdivision and a ribald sense of humor.
I will see you at the meeting. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
